On the hidden electro-hydraulic rod gate — the mechanism, the interlocks, the reason it is remote-controlled.

The pod has one moving part that matters. The gate.

Everything else — the grill insert, the fridge, the range hood — is engineered to sit still and behave. The gate is the theatre. It is also the one place we let ourselves show off.

A hinged door swings into the cook. A sliding door needs a track that collects grease. A lift-off panel is a lift-off panel. So the gate is driven by an electro-hydraulic rod system, hidden inside the shell, and it rotates the door face through ninety degrees to horizontal in a single quiet motion. Closed, the pod is a monolith. Open, the gate is a canopy.

The mechanism was not difficult to engineer. It was difficult to make quiet. Early prototypes sounded like a garage. The production rods are geared down, sealed and pressure-balanced, and the gate cycles under remote control with the acoustic signature of a good fridge.

There is a soft interlock at the top of travel. There is a physical stop at the bottom. There is a manual override on the side that pulls the gate down by hand in a power cut, so nothing is trapped inside.

The A-Mini, A-Plus and A-Ultra all share the same gate. The A-Pro replaces it with a motorized awning that extends nine hundred millimetres from the top of the pod — a different answer for sites where a hard closure would be the wrong one.

It is a gate. It is also the reason the rest of the pod could exist as one clean surface.
