Why PoshBBQ Is Different — Hidden Electric Rods, Not Exposed Rams
Most BBQ pods on the market lift their door on rams and struts you can see. Ours are hidden inside the shell. Here's why that one engineering choice changes the looks, the weather resistance and the lifespan.

Look closely at most outdoor kitchen pods and you'll spot the mechanism: the arms, rams or gas struts that raise the door are mounted on the outside, on show. PoshBBQ took the harder engineering route — our electro-hydraulic rods are hidden entirely inside the shell. You feel the difference the moment the door glides up with nothing visible pushing it.
A cleaner object, not a machine
An exposed ram tells you the pod is a piece of equipment. A hidden mechanism lets the pod read as furniture. Closed, a PoshBBQ pod is a single clean cabinet; open, the door lifts to a canopy with no visible hardware breaking the lines. That restraint is what lets it sit comfortably beside a home instead of looking like plant machinery parked on the patio.
Protected from the British weather
Mechanisms mounted on the outside are exposed to rain, frost, salt air and grime — the exact conditions that seize hinges and pit metal over a few winters. By sealing our rods inside the shell, the moving parts stay dry and clean. That is a large part of why the door keeps cycling smoothly for years rather than stiffening after a season.
Quieter, and safer
Internal electro-hydraulic rods are geared down and pressure-balanced, so the door opens in about 3.5 seconds with the acoustic signature of a good fridge — not the clunk of an external strut. There are no exposed pinch points running along an arm, and a manual override lowers the door by hand in a power cut, so nothing is ever trapped inside.
Engineered, not assembled
Hiding the mechanism is genuinely harder: it means designing the shell around the rods from the start, routing power internally, and testing every unit at the factory before it ships. That is the PoshBBQ approach across the range — the A-Mini, A-Plus and A-Ultra all use the concealed electric gate, while the A-Pro uses a hidden motorised awning for open sites.
The mechanism is the one part of an outdoor kitchen you touch every single time you use it. We think it should be the part you never have to see. If that kind of detail matters to you, build a pod on the configurator or ask us for a quote.
